Ocracoke Island celebrates Independence Day 2018 with a two days of old-fashioned fun and fireworks. Ocracoke's family-oriented, fun-filled annual event offers activities for all ages. Kicking off the event is a traditional Ocracoke Square Dance followed by Fireworks on July 3. On the 4th, watch the Boy Scouts salute the raising of “Old Glory” at the Flag Raising in front or Ocracoke School. Enjoy the rare opportunity to see inside the Ocracoke Lighthouse. By yourself or with a crew, join in the annual Sand Sculpture Contest at the Lifeguard Beach, or just go and marvel at the creations. Visit Ocracoke’s ponies at the Pony Pens. Hear entertaining stories, reminisce at the classic car show, or spend a glorious day at the beach. Ocracoke Island’s 65th annual Classic Old-Time Parade will wind through the village in the late afternoon. Visitors and locals are encouraged to participate with floats, decorated bikes, baby strollers, golf carts or whatever. The theme of the 300th anniversary of Blackbeard’s demise on Ocracoke is encouraged! Prizes for both the Sand Sculpture Contest and the Parade! Evening calls you back to the Lifeguard Beach to join in the Community Beach Fire (s’mores provided) under the stars! New this year: Bring your glow-in-the-dark gear and dance the night away at the family-friendly Glow Light Dance Party by Emerald Owl Productions to benefit Ocracoke Community Ball Park.
